Sometimes a website does exactly what it says in the URL. BlackChristianPeopleMeet does just that: it’s an online space for single black Christians to chat and potentially meet up. Although there is a religious element to this site it isn’t thrown in your face and if it weren’t for the name you’d be forgiven for not realising that it’s a Christian dating site as much as it is a black dating site.

In fact, you can even choose from a range of other religions (or find atheists and agnostics) but beyond “Catholic” and “Christian” there actually aren’t any other sub sections of Christianity covered. This seems something of a flaw given the set up, particularly as some Christians will want to meet like-minded Christians of a particular subsection of the faith. Anyway, we digress. The real question here is how useful is this site going to be in finding you a date?

Well, if you’re a black Christian who's looking for love, this could be a handy place to visit. A basic search in our test area revealed over 80 results, which is a little disappointing but not dreadful. We also make the assumption that for the people who choose to use this site, religion is a very important part of their lives. Subsequently we don’t really expect the same sorts of membership numbers that we might on a generic dating site.

We therefore suggest that the people who are most likely to gain (and find a date) using this website will be similarly interested in religious belief. Beyond that, you can search for members based on a reasonable range of criteria, or even receive instant matches based on your profile particularities. The instant match feature will throw some curve balls your way, showing you members who you might not normally have looked at.

Many of the members we found had taken the time to upload photos and add information about their lifestyle and preferences. Free members can send flirts, letting others know they’re interested in them. However you’ll need to upgrade your account if you wish to take advantage of the various communication tools available on the site. These include the ability to send email-style messages to a private inbox, or to chat in real time when members are online.

Unfortunately, the live chat feature is a bit fiddly as you can only find out which of your “favorite” members are online, so you’ll need to build up a list before being able to instantly chat with people. This is a rather unfortunate caveat as it means you won’t be able to quickly and simply locate members who are online who you haven’t checked out before.

The “what’s new?” section of the site allows you to read success stories and dating tips, which are inspiring and useful. However, there’s not a whole lot to do around the site otherwise. Given the community that will be drawn to this website, we’d expect more in the way of forums and chat rooms for people to discuss issues which are close to their heart and to help them find like-minded people with whom they might decide to engage in a more private chat.

A potentially strange addition to the profile pages is a “send this to a friend” button, which allows you to share a profile with someone you know, almost as if nudging a friend in a cocktail bar and saying “hey they’d be great for you”.

BlackChristianPeopleMeet.com might be a decent site if you’re sure of the kind of person you’re looking for. Its membership numbers are low though, but in some ways it’s backed itself into a corner by being so specific about its membership criteria. That considered, this is a pretty cheap dating site and if you’re looking for a single black Christian then your chances of finding a date aren’t bad.
